Working with children, you're practically guaranteed to get showered with the sweetest and most sincere valentines. They give what they have. One boy gave me his pencil.

Saturday Morning

When I went into the kitchen this morning, I couldn't find the ladle, the trashcan was in a new place, all my dishes were replaced, and there was a new lemon squeezer..... Melissa!

I went outside and found her on the deck, sunbathing. "Oh, yeah, I got you some new stuff," she said, keeping her eyes closed in the sun. I joined her for a bit, letting the sun hit my back. Not wanting to get burnt, I soon got up and went through the sliding back door to my parents' house, finding Jessica at the piano.

"Keep the door open," Melissa called lazily. "I want to hear her play."

Except for Jessica, the house is empty. Elona is bungee jumping with Chris. My parents are on vacation.

Postscript: Elona before her jump.

Valentine's Day is Mommy and Daddy.

I asked our kids if they know what Valentine's Day is. "Mommy and Daddy," said a 4-year-old. The toddler next to him nodded in agreement.
