Journal Excerpts from 2007

Monday, September 10, 2007
Carly and Hannah came over and we fried taco shells and made salsa. Then we went out to the clubs on Main Street to evangelize . . . Carly's idea. And actually, it was only Carly who evangelized. Hannah and I sat dumbfounded in the background, bewildered by the club scene. It was our first time.

Dad borrowed my car for a few days, and brought it back deep cleaned and with new tires. So typical him.

I sewed myself a costume.

People ask "what is it?" I don't know how to answer, so Ira talks for me: "She's a Bavarian-Oriental."

Or, according to my friend Brian, I'm a Megathymus ursus.

Postscript: He later collected 2 for me.

We recently had a party for our kids with Disney characters, and several girls are now convinced that I was the woman in the Cinderella costume. I keep denying it, but they are certain it was me.

They say they can tell by my cheeks. "You have the smile of Cinderella," one girl said in her Spanish accent. She gave me a hug and looked up at me. "You have the height of Cinderella!" The other girls crowded in and measured themselves against me too. "Yes, it was you! You were the one who hugged us at the party!"

Now whenever I walk by, they call out to me, "Cinderella! Cinderella!"

It's the cutest thing.

We slept in one room last night.

After helping me put on a duvet cover, my dad handed me the comforter and said "Now you just have to put the bones together."

He meant "button it," but of course I understood. That's Dad's English.
